Per family information, in 1917 Kenneth served on the Mexican border in the National Guard. In World War I he was a sergeant and captain of a machine gun company in the 165th A.E.F. Rainbow Division and was with the army of occupation in Metz. After the war he served as a lieutenant colonel in the National Guard in Chicago and died while cleaning his pistol for a parade (see obit in his photos). He was divorced and had one son, Kenneth Jr., who was raised by his parents.
