Gilbert was the son of Thomas Jefferson and Margaret Evelyn (Adams) York. He married (1) Helen Dalrymple and they were the parents of two children: Robert and Julia Evelyn. He married (2) Lucy Isolde Fox in 1945 and they were the parents of twin daughters: Margaret and Judith Elaine.

Funeral services for Gilbert York, 73, of West Frankfort, will be at 11 am Tuesday at the Reedy Funeral Home, West Frankfort.
The Rev. Bill Fox and the Rev. Gerald Fox will officiate. Burial will be in the Herrin City Cemetery. Friends may call after 4 pm today at the funeral home.
Mr. York, who lived at 1218 E Oak St, died at 4:30 am Sunday in Union Hospital, West Frankfort, after a brief illness.
He had been a resident of West Frankfort since 1927.
Mr. York retired in 1965 from his job as a hoisting engineer for the Old Ben Coal Corp.
He was a member of Local 8317, United Mine Workers of America. He also was a former member of the Herrin Masonic Lodge.
Mr. York was born in Hamilton County the son of Thomas Jefferson and Margaret Evelyn Adams York.
He is survived by his wife, Isolde; a son, Robert of West Frankfort; a sister, Mrs. Stella Ragsdale of McLeansboro; three grandchildren and one great grandchild.
