Joe Doyle, 89, of Holton, KS, passed away Monday, February 16, 2015 at his home. He was born June 17, 1925 in Holton, KS the son of Edward James, Jr. and Josephine H. (Hurla) Doyle.
Joe attended Holton High School and served in the United States Army during World War II. After his military service, Joe worked for Durham & Farrell Welding and Machine Shop and for Humphrey's Minneapolis-Moline dealership. He has been a farmer and stockman since 1947.
Joe was a member of St. Dominic Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus. He served as District Director of Kansas Farm Bureau Assoc. for over 30 years and was a longtime member of Jackson County and Kansas Livestock Associations. Joe was involved in Jackson County 4-H, served as Vice-President of Jackson County Fair Board and received the Farmer of the Year Award from the Holton Lions Club. He also was a member of V.F.W. and American Legion, both in Holton. He was Holton High School Outstanding Alumnus Award in 1999.
Joe married Mary Eckert on September 17, 1946 in Topeka, KS....
Joe was preceded in death by a daughter, Mary Jo Doyle-Fitch on September 22, 2011; 2 sisters, Nancy Bucco and Kathryn Spann and 2 brothers, John and James Doyle.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, February 21, 2015 at St. Dominic Catholic Church. Rosary will be prayed 6:00 p.m. Friday evening with visitation to follow at the Mercer Funeral Home in Holton. Burial with military honors will be in the Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Memorials may be given to the Holton Community Hospital Home Health and Hospice c/o Mercer Funeral Home, P.O. Box 270, Holton, KS 66436.
