Gary was born June 17, 1937 in Aberdeen, SD to Walter and Bessie (Buchanan) Brunn. He grew up in Mellette and served in the United Stated Navy, serving in Guam from 1960-1961. He married Linda Barton on June 17, 1957 in Mellette, SD. Gary worked at South Dakota Wheat Growers in Mellette and Aberdeen and later REA in Aberdeen. They moved to Arizona where he worked as an aluminum roofing contractor for several years. When they returned to Redfield he worked at South Dakota Developmental Center until he retired in 1992.
Gary enjoyed watching Fox News and the Miami Heat of the NBA was his favorite team. He followed Michael Jordan throughout his years playing in the NBA.
Gary is survived by his wife Linda of Redfield; his adopted daughters: Deb (Terry) Hieb of Mellette and Brenda (Bob) Curtis of Redfield; his grandchildren: Summer (Cory), Dustin (Amanda), Travis and Ryley; his great grand children: Libby Rose, Charlie, Lucy Dianne, Jack and Jaira. He is also survived by his sisters-in-law: Villa (Allen) Moeller, Dorothy (Dave) Hahn, Donna Palmer and Jane Robertson. Many nieces and nephews called him “Uncle”
He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant sister, four half brothers: Roy Robertson, Jude Robertson, Charles “Lindy” Robertson and Marion “Red” Robertson; his father and mother-in-law James and Cynthia Barton, his sister-in-law Pauline Schoniger and his brother-in-law Wayne Schoniger.
