Mrs. James was born in Wayne county, New York, November 26, 1843 and came to Rock county with her parents in 1849. She was married to Joseph Harris, in this city in March 1864, her husband dying in the fall of 1870. In December 1872, she was married to Joseph James, since whose death in April, 1898, she has resided with her sister, Mrs. James Harris. Four sisters, Mrs. James Harris, of this city, Mrs. Joseph H. Budd, Stockton, Cal., Mrs. D. Nathan and Mrs. H.R. Starkhouse, of San Francisco, Cal., and two brothers, Elliott Ash, of Alden, Minn., and Thomas Ash, of Bridgewater, South Dakota, survive her.

Her three children, Eugene and Ash Harris and Ernest James, passed away in their early youth. One brother, Eli Ash, and two sisters, Mrs. Harvey Handy and Mrs. C.S. Cobb have preceded her to the other world. She also leaves a large circle of relatives and friends to mourn her loss...
