Essie Vines Estis, age 95, 1919 ~ 2015, was the last surviving of nine children born to Manley and Amanda (Glover) Vines in the community of Alliance, AL. She was the great granddaughter of Edmund Cape Smith who founded the nearby community of Toadvine after the Civil War. She was preceded in death by W.P. Estis, her husband of 67 years.
Essie and W.P. were early residents of Pleasant Grove, AL and were very active in the development of the community. They were active members of First Baptist Church where Essie worked in the church library. Essie was a dedicated volunteer and member of the PTA at Pleasant Grove Elementary where she also worked in the library. In 1986 Essie and W.P. moved to Southside, AL and became beloved members of the community for more than 20 years. Visitation will be held at Elmwood Chapel in Birmingham, AL from 12:30 P.M. to 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, February 18, 2015, with graveside services following at Elmwood Cemetery.
