On September 14, 1942, she married Harold Briscoe Preston. They lived and operated Long Prairie Ranch in Blue Lake, California, where they raised cattle and their two children. She was a past president of the Humboldt County Cow Belles and was active as a 4-H leader.
In 1962 they moved to Warden where they continued to farm and raise Shorthorns in partnership with their son and daughter-in-law, John and Helen Preston.
Rose held offices in the Grant County Cattlewomen and Washington State Cattlewomen Associations, and was active in the Grant County Farm Bureau. She was an organizing member of the Karneetsa Chapter of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution in Moses Lake; she was proud of her membership and her nine ancestors of the Revolutionary War.
She co-authored two books with Carol Huber: The Preston/Lindsey Trail and the Preston/Lindsey Trail Book II. Genealogy was one of her greatest joys, second only to her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Rose is survived by her husband of Warden; a son and daughter and their families; stepmother Violet Anderson of Seiad Valley; and two stepbrothers and two stepsisters.
She was preceded in death by sister Kathryn Jackson and grandson Steven Palmquist.
