Harold Briscoe Preston, 90, longtime resident of Warden, Washington, passed away November 12, 2007, at Samaritan Hospital in Moses Lake,

Harold was born to F. Joshua Preston and Grace Briscoe Preston on August 12, 1917, in Eureka, CA. His grandparents were John Calvin Preston and Sarah Jane Lindsey, a pioneer family of Arcata. Harold graduated from Arcata High School and attended Cal Poly, San Louis Obispo, CA. He worked as a logger as well as owning his own ranching operation above Blue Lake, now known as the Preston Ranch. The family moved to Warden in 1962 to ranch and farm with son, John. They raised registered Shorthorn cattle, selling bulls to ranches throughout the western states.

In 1940 Harold married Ferne Lanelle Parks in Eureka, CA. She passed away in 1941. In September 1942, he married Rosaline Doris Waldner in Carson City, Nevada. She passed away in 2006.

Harold is survived by daughter, Joyce Lanelle (Charles) Stroeher, Port Angeles, WA; son, John (Helen) Preston, Warden, WA; 5 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by his parents and sister Maple McCall, brother Elvan Preston, and grandson Steven Palmquist.

Harold served in the U.S. Army during WWII. He had been active in Farm Bureau, Inter-county Weed District, the Shorthorn Association and the American Legion. After retiring, he enjoyed fishing and traveling with his wife, Rosaline, for many years.

Graveside services November 17 at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Warden, WA. Arrangements in care of Kayser's Chapel.
