While visiting his mother in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Southern California's Trojans point guard, Ryan Francis, was shot and killed at a red light around 3:30 AM. Ryan was in the passenger seat of the car; He was the only one injured.

Francis was a "standout" in High School sports and academics. He was the starting point guard this past season for USC (17-13) and averaged more than seven points a game. He ranked seventh in the Pac-10 in assists (111) and fifth in steals (47).

Francis, Ryan LeChanc Born March 17, 1987, to Paulette D. Francis and Frank H. Bush in Baton Rouge, he departed this earthly life Saturday, May 13, 2006. He was baptized at the age of 7. Visiting at Greater King David Baptist Church, 222 Blount Road, on Friday, May 19, from noon to 9 p.m. Visiting resumes at the church on Saturday from 8 a.m. until religious service at 11 a.m., conducted by the Rev. John Montgomery. Interment in Southern Memorial Gardens. Ryan leaves to cherish his memory a devoted mother, Paulette Francis of Baton Rouge; father, Frank Bush of Baton Rouge; seven aunts, Agayther Adams, Diane Francis, Elaine and spouse Gerald Francis, Sonia and spouse George Woods, Shelia and spouse Norman Ross, Jackie Bush, and Marion Simmons; eight uncles, Edward and spouse Pearl Holmes, Ferdinand and spouse Andrea Francis, Reginald and spouse Theresa Francis, Anthony Francis, Kenneth and spouse Carlisse Francis, Randy Bush, Michael Bush and Moses Francis; great-aunt, Myrtle Williams; half sister, Candice Bush; grandmother, Shirley Bush; two godmothers, Darlene Davis and Cassandra Zanders; godbrothers, Darius and Brandon; godsister, Alexis; and many, many cousins and a host of other relatives and friends. Ryan was preceded in death by his loving grandparents, Shirley and Lawrence Francis and Buddy "Red" Bush; infant brothers, Rodney and Rodrick Francis; uncle, Eldridge Holmes; and aunt, Gail Bush. He was a 2005 graduate of Glen Oaks High School and a student at the University of Southern California. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Ryan Francis Memorial Fund, c/o Regions Bank, account 4302618346. Arrangements by Carney-Mackey Funeral Home.
