Her gravestone reads, as follows: SACRED; TO THE MEMORY OF; ALEXANDRIA SOPHIA GILBERT; WIFE OF LAUCHLAN DONALDSON. Mrs. Donaldson was the daughter of Francis Gilbert and Sophia Wallace and the sister of Susan. Their tombstone in the Loyalist Burial Grounds reads, as follows: SACRED; To; the Memory of; FRANCIS GILBERT; Naval Officer; of this Province. --; -- ALSO --; SOPHIA WALLACE; His Wife;; &; SUSAN,; their Daughter.; --; When They died,; the Poor lost friends. At the bottom right-hand side of Mrs. Donaldson's gravestone, "S. P. Osgood" is engraved, apparently, in reference to a stone cutter whose business on King Street South featured "all descriptions of head stones, monuments and marble mantel pieces." There is a poem on the headstone but I can't read it. Mrs. Donaldson's husband was mayor of Saint John, New Brunswick. Donaldson Street in Millidgeville is named after him. One of her daughters, Sophia W. Donaldson, was married to John Townsend Coffin on June 16, 1834. Sophia's tombstone in St. Andrews New Brunswick reads, as follows: SOPHIA WALLACE; DONALDSON; WIFE OF; ADMIRAL JOHN; TOWNSEND; COFFIN; BORN; 23 MAY 1816; DIED; 14TH FEB. 1856 (Source: 1903 (Vol. III) edition of Acadiensis.). According to another Web site, Mrs. Sophia Coffin's full name was Sophie Emily Wallace Donaldson. Mrs. Donaldson's gravestone is to the right of the Robinson family plot on Dell Avenue.
