S.D. Bancroft, proprietor of the general store at Sioux this county, died Monday from complications of diseases and was buried Wednesday. He was about 73 years and was survived by a family of 3 children. For many years Mr. Bancroft was engaged in the merchantile business at Sioux and by his sterling honesty and true worth made many war friends. He was postmaster at Sioux until the office was abolished a few months ago. Mr. Bancroft was a great friend of the poor and his many kind deeds will linger long in the memories of his beneficiaries. As an instance of the high esteem in which he was held by those whom he had befriended it may be mentioned that an old soldier living at Sargents whom Mr. Bancroft had trusted during the Civil War would walk eleven miles past stores in Piketon and Jasper to make his purchases at Sioux.
