Kathleen Mary "Kathy" Aalfs
March 14, 1941 ~ February 13, 2015

Kathleen (O'Meara) Aalfs passed away Friday, February 13th, in Indian Wells, CA, after a brief illness. Funeral Services will be at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, February 24, 2015 at the First Lutheran Church in Sioux City with Reverend Dr. David Christenson officiating. A private family interment will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery.

Kathy was born in Sioux City, IA on March 14th, 1941, to Rosina (Riklefs) and Francis
O'Meara. She attended Central High School, graduating in 1958, and the University of
South Dakota, where she was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta Sorority, earning a
Teaching Certificate in Elementary Education. In 1960, she married David Bailey Aalfs,
also of Sioux City. Kathy and Bailey lived in Lawton, OK and Lincoln, NE, before
settling in Sioux City, IA.

Kathy raised three children, and spent much of her time with a wide range of volunteer
and philanthropic groups. She was a member of the Sioux City Junior League, Junior
Women's Club, Bard of Avon Book Club, and Chapter EY P.E.O. She served as a
member of the Board of Trustees of the University of South Dakota as well as the USD
Foundation, the Jackson Recovery Center of Sioux City, and Girls Inc. She supported
numerous other local charities and civic organizations. For over 20 years she
maintained her own catering business and supplied her signature sandwich loaf to
many luncheons and gatherings. She also enjoyed golf, travel, tennis, bridge, and time
with her friends, children and grandchildren. More recently she and her husband Bailey spent part of each year in Indian Wells, CA, as well as Potato Lake, Minnesota, where she enjoyed entertaining friends and family members.

Kathy is survived by her husband of 54 years, Bailey Aalfs; three children and their spouses: Kim Aalfs and Chris Needham of Wenham, MA, Scott and Cathy Aalfs of Town and Country, MO, and Jeff and Sally Aalfs of Portola Valley, CA; seven grandchildren and several cousins, nieces and nephews.

Kathy was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Robert, and a sister, Judith.
