Son of Pierre Manigold and Marie Ann Roth. Married first Margaret Resser, about 1819, probably in France. Married second, following Margaret's death, Freelove Stafford.

His Americanized name is Peter Manigold, and his full name in his native French was Pierre Francois Xavier Manigold. Another variation on his last name is: DeManigold.

According to the New York State Census, 1865, Le Ray, Jefferson County, 1st Ele District, 25 Jun 1965, line 17, family 126, Peter is Freelove's 4th marriage and she is the mother of 14. Peter's first wife was also the mother of 14 children, so it is not clear if Freelove's "14" children were her from previous marriages, or if this number referred to Peter and Margaret's.

The father of following children (widely varying spellings of first/middle names):
Mary Louisa CRAVE d. 20 Apr 1854
Peter/Pierre Francois Xavier
Marguerithe Rosalie
Casmir Eugene
Lucien E.
Marie Therese Eleanore
Julie Judith
Heloise
Pierre Joseph Napoleon
Julian Auguste Antoine
Virginie Caroline Josephine
Louis Eugene Desire
Marie Anne Josephine Rosalie
Jule Germain Joseph d. 01 Sep 1893

An article printed in New York State Travel, Jul 1-Aug 15, 1959:
Many descendants of officers of Napoleon, who fought with him in the Napoleonic War, still live in Cape Vincent. One such descendant proudly describes the medal given to her great grandfather by Napoleon. The inscription on the medal, cast from the iron in a cannon used at Waterloo, reads: "To his companions in glory-his last thoughts-St. Helena, 5th day of May 1821." Around the edge of the medal is written 'companions from 1792 to 1815' with a likeness of Napoleon. The officer was Pierre Manigold who was one of the few soldiers who survived the Battle of Moscow. He received the Cross of the Legion of Honor for his bravery. His great grandchildren living in Cape Vincent now, all or part of the year, are Marjorie Steblen Gerard, Lucille Steblen Blake and Kenneth C. Steblen, grandchildren of Julia Manigold Steblen, Pierre Manigold's daughter.
