William Ottis Collard, age 93 of Madisonville, passed away on Monday, December 2, 2013 in Bryan, Texas.

Funeral services are scheduled for 2 PM, Wednesday, December 4th at the Madisonville Funeral Home Chapel with burial to follow in Jozye Cemetery. A gathering of family and friends will be held on Tuesday, December 3 from 5 pm to 8 pm at the funeral home.

William Ottis Collard was born in Walker County, Texas on August 10, 1920. His parents were Jonathan Samuel and Alice Irene (Stephens) Collard. He had been a resident of Madisonville since 1982 and formerly lived in Deer Park, Texas. Ottis was a member of the Hwy 90 Church of Christ. He worked at Champion Paper Company as a forklift operator in the shipping and receiving department for 32 years. Ottis enjoyed gardening and bee keeping. He harvested honey and vegetables and gave it away to those who wanted them.

During World War II, Ottis served in the US Army 8th Infantry Division Artillery in the European Theater. While in Europe, he was in the motor pool and delivered orders to the front lines. Some of the places in which he served were Normandy, Rhineland, Northern France and Central Europe. He received the American Theater Service Medal, a Good Conduct Medal and the EAME Service Medal with 4 Bronze Service Stars.

Ottis was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Flossie; brothers, John Edmon Collard, Charles Lemuel Collard, Lewis Clifton Collard and Clarence Allen Collard and a sister, Myrtle Irene Bennett. Surviving family includes a son Ottis Wayne Collard of Beloit, Kansas; two daughters, Deborah Faye Reed of Bryan and Catherine Diann Goen and husband, Thomas, of College Station; three sisters, Virgie Pearl Pearl Lucas of Madisonville, Dorothy Ann Jordy of Madisonville and Alice Marie Rice of Katy; ten grandchildren, Brett Collard, Ryan Collard, Dale Collard, Lance Collard, Jamie Lawson, Shanna Collins, Scott Reed, Diane Alvarado, Erin Price and John Goen; numerous great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Serving as pallbearers: Wayne Collard, Tom Goen, John Goen, Scott Reed, Jimmy Collard, Cliff Collard, Jason Collard, Shawn Collard, Tommy collard and Eddie Collard. Serving as honorary pallbearers: Randy Collard, Keith Collard, Bradly collard, Josh Collard, Ronald Lucas, Donald Lucas, Dane Lucas, Paul Tucker, Tim Rice and Jay Bennett.
