At the Charlotte County Hospital, St. Stephen NB on August 9, 2013, Mrs. Alice Leland (Adams) (Darke) MacVicar, wife of the late William John Darke formerly of Deer Island NB and predeceased by her second husband, Milton MacVicar of Bonny River NB. Born at Deer Island NB on July 15, 1916 she was the daughter of the late Oliver and Martha (Leland) Adams. A loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother who will be greatly missed, she is survived by one son, William Allison (Cindy) Darke of Deer Island NB, one daughter, Elizabeth Ann Darke of Deer Island NB and several grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins. Alice was predeceased by one son, Gregory Thomas Darke and by one daughter Dawna Raye Crosby.
Prior to her retirement in 1981, Alice worked as a School Teacher, finishing normal school in 1935, she taught in Canal NB, St. George NB, Back Bay NB and Deer Island NB, along with helping her first husband in the Grocery Store until he retired in 1972. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, a part time church organist in many Baptist Churches and an editor of the Fundy Isles Senior Magazine. Alice spent the last four years of her life in Lincourt Manor Nursing Home in St. Stephen NB where she was cared for by a wonderful staff, which her son and daughter thank so very much. Also, we wish to thank the Charlotte County Hospital for the care they gave our mother during her last days.
As per Alice’s wishes, there will be no visitation. A service will be held at the Mount Hope Cemetery, Deer Island NB on September 7, 2013 at 2 pm with Rev. Maurice Hatfield officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Alzheimer’s Society of NB would be appreciated by the family.
