Dale served in the Air Force as a 1st lieutenant in the Army Finance Corp. After serving his country he came home to Burns and owned and operated the Modern Laundry and Faye Grazing Corp with his parents and brother, Don. He was a vital part of the community serving on the city council and he was also the mayor of Burns. In 1975 he began serving as Harney County judge. He was elected president of the Association of Oregon Counties in 1983 and president of Western Interstate Region of Public Land Counties in 1988. In recognition of his efforts, he received the Nation’s Top Public Lands Elected County Official award. Dale served on the board of directors for the National Association of Counties from 1986 to 1998, serving as the chairman of the Public Lands Steering Committee from 1983 to 1989 and as the co-chairman of the National Association of Counties Rural Renaissance Task Force from 1996 to 1998. He was judge for 24 years until his retirement. He was also very civic minded and served on many church and community committees. He was a loving and honest man.
He married JoAnna Westfall White on April 11, 1954 and they had three children: Linda Jo, Kathryn Marie, and Ronald Dale, Jr.
