George Junior Rushing, age 79, of Heber Springs, Arkansas, passed away Wednesday, February 9, 2005, at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Little Rock, Arkansas. Born in Shirley, Arkansas, on March 12, 1925, he was the son of the late Mark and Lola (Hackett) Rushing.

Mr. Rushing was a retired steel worker for Armco Steel of Kansas City, Missouri. He was a Pearl Harbor survivor and a veteran of World War II and the Korean War. While serving in the United States Navy, Mr. Rushing received the World War II Victory Medal, American Area Campaign Medal, Philippine Independence Medal, Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal, China Service Medal, and China Occupation, and he was awarded a Purple Heart. He was a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans and Veterans of Foreign War. Most of his life, Mr. Rushing was a resident of Clinton, and he enjoyed fishing and coaching sports. His religious belief was Baptist.

Mr. Rushing was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia C. Rushing, on June 19, 2004. He was also preceded in death by his parents, Mark and Lola Rushing; one son, Vernon Rushing; one daughter, Mary Ann Sheets; one brother, Jo Ingle of Topeka, Kansas; and one granddaughter, Melissa Nicole Rushing.

Survivors include four sons and their wives; one daughter; his daughter-in-law; one brother; one sister; his aunt; thirty-one grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; and other relatives and his many friends.

Visitation will be held Friday, Feb. 11, from 6:00-8:00 P.M. at Olmstead Funeral Home, Inc. Funeral services will be held Saturday, Feb. 12, at 2:00 P.M. in the Pee Dee Cemetery Chapel. Interment with military honors will follow in the Pee Dee Cemetery. Arrangements are by Olmstead Funeral Home, Inc., 601 W. Main, Heber Springs, Arkansas 72543.
