Obituary
Billy Joe Ables, 70 of Huntington passed away at 2:20 pm on Monday, February 23, 2015 at his residence. Billy was a professional cabinet maker with his father in Alabama during his younger years and continued with carpentry throughout his life. He also worked at Wabash Magnetics in maintenance for 38 ½ years. After his retirement he worked for Apache Drywall for 3 years with his son. He was the Chief Indian guide for the YMCA from 1975 – 1977. He was a member of Bethel Assembly of God where he served on the board. He was a leader in the Royal Rangers program and a part of the ministry. He coached the girls' softball team at Wabash Magnetics. His hobbies include fishing, hunting, swimming, softball and bowling. His greatest enjoyment was fishing and playing with his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Billy was born on September 8, 1944 in Toccoa, Georgia, the youngest child of Robert W. and Margaret A. (Rice) Ables.

He was united in marriage to Barbara Fay Nowlin on July 4, 1964 in Fayetteville, Tennessee.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years: Barbara Ables of Huntington; a son: Richard Joe Ables of Huntington; three daughters: Rhonda (Steve) Sandvoss of Rochester, IL; Renae (Ben) Schmidt of Huntington; Regina (Tom) Martz of Huntington; Fourteen grandchildren: Amber (Kyle) Caffee, Adam (Jama) Ables, Andrea Ables, Aaron Ables Paholak, Austin Ables, Bethany Schmidt, Brittany Sandvoss, Bret Sandvoss, Alan Schmidt, Chelsea Grayless, Paige Martz, Conner Martz, Joe Sandvoss, Jackson Martz, seven great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.

He was preceded in death by a brother: R.T. Gray and three sisters: Geneva Hernandez, Francis Hall and Bobbie Holt.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, February 26, 2015 from 5:00 – 8:00 pm at the Myers Funeral Home Huntington Chapel, 2901 Guilford Street, Huntington, Indiana.

Funeral service will be held on Friday, February 27, 2015 at 11:00 am with one hour of visitation prior to the service at Bethel Assembly of God, 1640 E. Taylor Street, Huntington with Pastor John Backes, Pastor Bill Royse and Pastor Mike Pieart officiating.
Interment will be at the Pilgrims Rest Cemetery.
