Estes was born in Ash Flat, Arkansas on May 30, 1927 to Gus Amos and Lumima (Martin) Amos. She departed this life on Monday, February 23, 2015 in Hanford, California at the age of 87. On October 17, 1943 Willene married Claud K. Estes in Evening Shade, Arkansas. This union lasted 63 years.

They and their 3 sons moved to Armona in April, 1955 where they joined numerous relatives and friends who had arrived earlier. Willene spent many years as a child care provider.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Claud, her son, William Franklin, and grandchildren Jill and Billy Estes, a brother, John Amos and two sisters, Aleta Amos and Willie Mae Fields.

She is survived by her sons, Glenn (Karen) of Armona, John (Mary) of Lemoore and Phillip (Renee) of Hanford. She also leaves behind grandchildren, Claudia Hodson of Armona, Michele Mendes (Ed) of Lemoore, Roger Estes (Liz) of Lemoore, Carrie Ford (A.J.) of Soulsbyville and Ryan Estes (Kelly) of Hanford, as well as 21 great-grandchildren and 2 step-grandchildren, Stacie Acquistapace (J.R.) of Alabama and Justin Miller (Darcee) of Armona. She is also survived by her sister, Margaret Townsend of Gilmer, Texas and 2 brothers, Gus Amos of Armona and Bob Amos of Cape Cod, Massachusetts.

She was a long time member of the First Missionary Baptist Church of Armona, as well as Chapter 127 Order of the Eastern Star. Her greatest joys in life were, according to her own words; being a wife, a mother and a grandmother. She enjoyed cooking, sewing and being surrounded by her children and grandchildren.

The family would like to offer special thanks and gratitude to Dr. Buchanan and his staff, along with the employees of Hacienda Convalescent Hospital, particularly the girls at Station 3. Your kindness shown to us during this difficult time, as well as the special care given to our mother, is greatly appreciated.
