Thelma Vanderpool Blanton, 85, Tonganoxie, KS, passed away Oct. 19, 2012, at the Tonganoxie Nursing Center. Funeral Services will be held 7 p.m. Monday, Oct. 22, at Porter Funeral Home, 8535 Monrovia, Lenexa, KS. Visitation will be held 5-7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Private family burial will be at Evergreen Cemetery, Braymer, MO. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Kansas City, KS. Thelma was born Dec. 6, 1926, on a farm at Cowgill, MO. She attended school there and Lawson, MO. Thelma worked at Brown Shoe Co. and Kroger in Brookfield, MO, A&P grocery store in Ruskin Heights. She retired from Ball's Super Foods after 32 years. She is survived by her son, Steven Burns and his wife Chloe Jane of Edwardsville, KS, step-daughter, Janice Maddox of Valley Falls, KS, sisters, Vera Denny of St. Joseph, MO, and Sudie Young of Kansas City, KS, four step-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by sisters, Vaunda Feil, Ilene Stallings, Ellen Boyer, Madolene Stanley, brothers Ralph, Buford, and Payton L. Payton L. was killed at Pearl Harbor on the USS Pennsylvania. She was also preceded in death by her parents, Payton and Bertha Sturwoldt Vanderpool. She cherished her family with her love, and treasured Chloe Jane's (Carney) family.
