Roger Smith, 87 of Abilene and formerly of El Paso, Texas died Monday, May 15, 2006 at a local hospital.

Services will be at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday at the Bailey Funeral Home Chapel in Clyde, Texas with Rev. Kerry Patton officiating with burial to follow in the Eula Cemetery.

Mr. Smith was born June 18, 1918 in Eula to F. Lee and Lela Miller Smith. He graduated from Clyde High School in 1935 and from McMurry College in 1938. He married Lois Farmer August 16, 1941 in Spur, Texas. They lived in El Paso, Texas where he worked for El Paso Natural Gas as the chief dispatcher in Systems Control, retiring after 37 years of service. They moved back to Abilene from El Paso in March of 2006. He was a veteran of WWII serving in the U.S. Infantry in the Pacific Theater, receiving two purple hearts during his service. He was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church in El Paso.

Survivors include his wife, Lois of Abilene; one son, Roger Kenneth Smith and a very special daughter-in-law, Beth of Eula; three grandsons, Roger Kenneth Smith, Jr. and wife Shannon of Avondale, PA, Justin Wayne Smith of Phoenix, AZ, and Jesse Ross Smith of Abilene and one great-grandson, Levi Farmer Smith of Avondale, PA.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Till Smith and two sisters, Louise Nichols and Nell Jolly.
