Sheldon C. Smith, 87, of Minnetonka [MN] died peacefully at his home 23 December 2009. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend, WWII veteran and golf enthusiast. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

"Shel" was preceded in death by his mother Florence and sister Crystal. He is survived by Patty, his loving wife of fifty-nine years; children, Shannon, Paula (Loren), Daniel (Chuza), Bruce, Monica (David), Connie (James); grandchildren, Sean, Tracy, Jackie, Alejandro, Christine, Scott, Maddie, Alison & Patricia; niece & nephew, Bonnie & Terry; and friend from childhood, Bob Gow.

Memorial service will be/[was] held Tuesday, 12/29 at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church (IHM), 13505 Excelsior Blvd., Minnetonka. Visitation at 10 a.m.; Mass at 11 a.m. Memorials to Salvation Army or IHM Church Mortgage Fund preferred in lieu of flowers.

Sheldon C. Smith, USN, WWII Veteran, Minneapolis, MN, 20 AUG 10

July 19, 1922 - December 23, 2009



Sheldon Smith volunteered for and served in the US Navy during WWII from 1-18-43 to 11-2-45 serving on Submarines USS Bass, USS Muskallunge, and Submarine Tender USS Griffin as Machinist Mate Second Class, (MOMM2). Like most WWII Veterans Sheldon did not talk about his service much; however, it was known that he was very proud of his service and made a special trip to Washington D.C to see the World War II Memorial upon its completion.



Since members of the family were unable to be at the funeral in December of 2009 Sheldon will be/[was] placed at his final resting place August 20th 2010; there will be/[was] a small service for members of Sheldon’s family including Sheldon’s wife of fifty-nine years, his six children and their spouses, his nine grandchildren, nieces and nephews, and some other family and friends.
