JAMES A. VanVOLTENBERG Sr.

James A. VanVoltenberg Sr., 70, of Hastings, died suddenly on Friday, Feb. 27, at his home.

James Arthur Sr., the son of Melvin and Dorothy (LeVille) VanVoltenberg was born on March 11, 1944 in Minneapolis.

Following his education, Jim enlisted in the United States Navy and later received an honorable discharge.

On June 28, 1965, Jim was united in marriage to Rosella Brochman in Hastings. They enjoyed dancing and going on cruises together, as well as raising their family. She recently preceded him in death on January 4, 2014.

Jim loved woodworking, word search puzzles, camping, boating and fishing.

James was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Rosella; and by a niece.

He is survived by his children, Robert (Laurie) Larsen, Sherry (Dale) Morcomb, James Jr. (Kim) VanVoltenberg, and Lisa VanVoltenberg; his eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; siblings Melvin (Marilyn) VanVoltenberg and Patricia (Rick) Escalambre; and by many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, March 5, at Berean Bible Baptist Church, 18355 Red Wing Blvd., Hastings, with Pastor James A. VanVoltenberg Jr. officiating. Interment with honors will be held at Ft. Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday at Caturia-Smidt Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 201 E. Seventh St., Hastings and for one hour prior to the service at church.

Casket bearers are Brandon Morcomb, Gregg Larsen, Michael Dick, Yvonne Dick, Eric Morcomb and Tyler Tentinger. Honorary casket bearers are Jennifer Carel and Grace Larsen.

Arrangements are being completed by Caturia-Smidt Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Hastings.
