GREENSBORO - Carroll Brown McDowell, 76, a resident of Greensboro went to be with the Lord on Sunday October 9, 2011at Beacon Place in Greensboro.
Carroll was born March 15, 1935 in Hillsville, VA the daughter of Thomas H. and Seena Jackson Brown. Carroll spent most of her life in Greensboro with some time in Mount Airy and California. Carroll loved her family, reading, crosswords, jigsaws and helping others. She retired from Southern Bell after 31 years of service. She and her husband Clarence were fortunate to be able to travel the U.S., Mexico and Canada. In her later years,
Carroll became well known for her expertise in genealogy. She was a committed volunteer for the elderly and to Florida St. Baptist Church as well as the Southern Bell Pioneers.
Carroll was preceded in death by her parents; six brothers and sisters and much loved son-in-law, Bill Daniels. She is survived by devoted husband and wonderful caregiver, Clarence W. McDowell; two daughters, Barbara Daniels of Greensboro and Mary Fields of McLeansville; two grandsons, Kenneth Fields and Ian Daniels and one sister, Doris Woodward of California.
A Memorial Service will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. in the Hanes-Lineberry Funeral Home Sedgefield Chapel conducted by the Reverend Robert Glasgow. Interment will be in Guilford Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Thursday at Hanes-Lineberry Funeral Home Sedgefield Chapel form 1 p.m. until service time.
