He was a retired coal miner from Bethenergy #41 in 1982 and had previously worked at Grant Town Federal #1. He also hauled coal to people's homes throughout North Central West Virginia. He was a member of UMWA District 31. He married Genevieve McCoy Snoderly on September 18, 1943. They were married 62 years and resided in Baxter WV. They are the parents of Glenn, Lynn, Robert (deceased), Ruth Ann, James Jr, and Bonnie (deceased).He had 13 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. He was preceeded in death by all of his siblings, Claude Snoderly, Clarence "Jack" Snoderly, Georgia Neptune, and Ethel Bartholow.
