He is survived by daughter Sharon Kersten and husband Bob; son Donny Kerr; daughter Cindy Phillips and husband John; brothers Allen Kerr, Charles and wife Annette; sister Mary shivers and husband John; grandchildren Jason and wife Jei, Christi and husband Chris, Kevin, Kelly and husband Cole, Trevor and wife Laura, Jennifer and husband Koedy; great-grandchildren Katie, Bella and Christina.
James began his career as a machinist for Brown Oil Tool Company. Later, he and his cousin, Lawrence Troutt, opened a Recreational Vehicle sales business in Houston called Topper Sales. James was an outdoorsman. He enjoyed spending his free time on his ranch in Hempstead and hunting with friends and relatives.
Visitation will be on Thursday, December 5, 2019 from 10:00 am – 1:00 pm at Canon Funeral Home, with funeral services following at 1:00 pm. Interment will follow at the Hempstead Cemetery.
