Shirley L. (Reed) Murray was born in Gloucester, MA., January 29, 1928, to G. Warren* and Charlotte (Astrom) Reed. She attended Gloucester High School, then worked for Mighty Mac Clothing for 25 years as well as Strong Leather and Varion Extrion. She married Thomas Edward Murray, who predeceased her. She enjoyed traveling and was a member of the Wet Hens at the Gloucester YMCA, the Elks Emblem Club #339, the Seafood Retirees and the Ucita Council No. 46 Degree of Pocahontas.
Shirley Murray died Wednesday,February 25,2015, at the age of 87, at Addison Gilbert Hospital in Gloucester She was survived by four sons, eight grandchildren,and one great-grandchild. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her son, Robert Murray, her brother, G. Warren Reed Jr, and her sister, Ellen Backlowski.
Her family suggested that memorial contributions be made to the American Cancer Society.
* Shirley Murray's father, G. Warren Reed (1892- Oct 8.1946), drowned in the water off Thacher Island, Rockport. He had visited his son, a Coast Guardsman stationed on the island, and his boat capsized on his trip back to the mainland.
