He raised and showed Tennessee walking horses and helped organize the Midwest Tennessee Walking Horse Trainers Association. He judged the 1970 world championships for the Tennessee Walking Horse National Celebration.
Don owned and operated the Versailles Livestock Auction that has been a family business for many years. He was a member of the Flat Spring Baptist Church where he served as president of the cemetery association and held many other offices. In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, four daughters, 16 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.
