A memorial service for David Alan Nelson of Southeast Portland will be at 2 p.m. Friday in the Pastoral Center, 2838 E. Burnside St.
Mr. Nelson died of cancer Tuesday in his home at the age of 37.
He was born Aug. 17, 1955, in Portland, but was raised and graduated from high school in St. Helens. He earned his bachelor's degree from Western Washington University in Bellingham.
Mr. Nelson taught school in Forks, Wash., and in Arizona for several years. After moving back to the Portland area in 1982, he worked as a manager for Rainbow Adult Living, a local group home for the mentally retarded, until he became too ill to continue working.
Mr. Nelson is survived by his parents, Alan and Delores Nelson of Arch Cape; a brother, Paul of Lake Oswego; and his sisters, Judy Jung of Corvallis and Carol Amspoker of Junction City.
Disposition was by cremation.
The family suggests remembrances be contributions to Catholic Charities.
