Enrolled member of Mississippi Band Ojibwe at White Earth. He was orphaned at an early age, and dedicated his adult life in service to his country in various companies in the 58th Infantry Regiment, United States Army.

PFC Turpin was a barber by trade until the outbreak of WWI. After the war, he resumed this trade, but re-enlisted sometime thereafter. He died a few years later in Missoula while on active duty.
