She retired in 1945 as a registered nurse where she worked as a Public Health Nurse in Louisville, Kentucky. She was also an Avon representative for many years. She attended both Northside Christian and Southside Christian Churches. She was a member of Eastern Star.
Survivors include her two daughters, Melody Ruth Ann Kowalski of Bloomington and Susan Abbott of Indianapolis; three sons, Joseph William Abbott, Jr., of Spencer and Malcolm Paul "Butch" Abbott and John Scott Abbott, both of Bloomington; three sisters, Nola Wanhala of California, Ruth Hughes of Indiana, and Wresa Adams of Texas; nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph William Abbott; one son, Chester Thomas Abbott; one sister, Maxine Hunt; and three brothers, Dane Hughbanks, Verdon Hughbanks, and Evan Hughbanks.
Burial will be in Clear Creek Cemetery.
