Bennett Orr Willhite departed this life on July 18, 1993. Death was due to causes incident to age.

He was born on June 22, 1901 to Lewis Monroe and Daisy Snoddy Willhite.

Preceding him in death were a sister, Urith and a brother, Merritt. Surviving is one sister, Marvel Snead of Grant City, Missouri.

On August 29, 1926, he was married to June Butler of Bethany, Missouri, who lives in Salt Lake City. He is survived by one son, Jed (wife, Carol), and family of Centerville. Grandchildren are Calvin C. Willhite of Fremont, Calif.; Bruce B. Willhite of Omaha, Neb.; and Catherine Stacy of Clearfield; two great-grandchildren also remain.

He graduated from Central Missouri State Teacher College in 1925 and was awarded a Masters degree by the University of Missouri in 1930. His teaching career in St. Joseph, Missouri was interrupted by work in aircraft industry during World War II. He had formerly taught at Menaul School, Albuquerque, New Mexico, and in the training school at University of Missouri. In 1947, he came to Utah and after short tours at Carbon College, Price, Utah, and USU at Logan, he became a professor in Department of Civil Engineering at University of Utah, from which he was retired in 1968.

Orr maintained a lifelong interest in craftmanship; his favorite medium was wood. He produced some 350 pieces of furniture. His home is furnished with pieces of his own making.

He was a member of Professors Emeriti of University of Utah and was a long-time member of Wasatch Presbyterian Church.
