Services for Ruby M. Raikes, 85, of Walton, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday [May 20, 2006]in Calvary Union Church, Walton [Indiana]. She died at 5:30 a.m. Tuesday May 16, 2006 in Tipton Hospital, Tipton [Indiana].
Born March 18, 1921 in Cass County, [Indiana] she was the daughter of Walter and Martha Bruner Burrous. She was married May 8, 1941, in Walton [Indiana] to Merlyn Louis Raikes, who survives.
Mrs. Raikes was a former clerk for Timberlake's Gift Shop and also was a former rural mail carrier for the U.S.Postal Service.
She worshipped at Calvary Union Church near Walton, and was a member of Gideons International Auxiliary and the United Commercial Travelers. Ruby taught Child Evangelism Fellowship Good News Club for 25 years. She also taught Bible study at Chase Center for 15 years. Ruby won several awards at the Indiana State Fair for sewing and baking.
She enjoyed playing the piano and the organ and was a recipient of the Pharos-Tribune Good Neighbor award.
Ruby spent many hours reading her Bible, and she was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother.
Also surviving are one daughter, Kathleen and her husband, Dean Martin; one son, Jim Raikes and his wife Debbie.
Eight grandchildren, Trevor, Taylor, Torrey, Lauren, Valerie, Kristen, Stephen and Jonathan.
One brother, Paul Burrous and one sister, Opal Lockhart preceded in death.
Pastor Mike Stow will officiate at the services. Burial will be in the Walton IOOF Cemetery, Walton.
Gundrum Funeral Home handled arrangements.
