Vernon Cornett dies at 95; was longtime barber here

Former Whitesburg barber Vernon Cornett, 95, of Whitesburg, died January 10.

Born in Crown to the late John H. and Molly Dixon Cornett, he was the widower of Pet Blair Cornett, the father of the late Pat Hall, and a grandfather of the late Kim Larue.

He had served in the U. S. Army, and had worked in Baltimore, Md., and then went to barber school. He had been a barber for 56 years in Letcher County.

He was a member of the Mount Olivet Baptist Church in Blackey.

Surviving are two sons, Larry Cornett and wife Judy of Lexington, and Gary Cornett and wife Shelia of Whitesburg; four grandchildren, Richard Hall, Ashley Cornett, Beth Cornett, and Michael Cornett; four greatgrandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren; and a friend, Nova Polosky.

Funeral services were held January 13 at the Whitesburg First Baptist Church. Burial was in Green Acres Cemetery at Ermine.

Letcher Funeral Home of Whitesburg had charge of arrangements.
