Gloria Ann Turner, nee Ankrom, 77, of Maryville, Ill., born Friday, July 9, 1937, in Lovington, Ill., passed away at 9:40 a.m. Friday, March 6, 2015, at Anderson Hospital in Maryville, Ill. Mrs. Turner was a retired computer programmer working for the U.S. Government in St. Louis, Mo. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She especially loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Gloria's interest included traveling, sewing and bowling. In her youth she was an accomplished ping pong player. She was a very talented seamstress and owned Gloria's Knitting and attended many craft shows. She graduated from Lanphier High School in Springfield, Ill., and received her associates degree from SWIC. Gloria was very faithful to her church, a life long member at New Bethel United Methodist Church in Glen Carbon, Ill.She was preceded in death by her parents, Raymond and Joy, nee Roberts, Ankrom; a granddaughter, Melissa Hoppe; three brothers; and five sisters. Surviving are her husband, Howard M. Turner of Maryville, Ill., whom she married on June 10, 1955; two sons, Ken (Deane) Turner of Maryville, Ill., and Bruce Turner of Maryville, Ill.; her daughter, Joy (Robert) Edgeworth of Collinsville, Ill.; four granddaughters, Kristine E. Turner, Megan Turner, Allison Turner and Ashley (Travis) Esmon; great-grandson, Jack Esmon; great-granddaughter, Eloise Esmon; and her brother and sister, Jim Ankrom of Decatur, Ill., and Jane Davis of Decatur, Ill. Memorials may be made to the New Bethel United Methodist Church.
