Mr. Paul was pastor of Oak Ridge Baptist Church and Chaplin for The LaSalle Nursing Home in Jena. He was also retired from the Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality.
He joined the U.S. Navy when he was only 16 years old, and served his country proudly in WWII. After receiving his honorable discharge, he returned to his hometown and graduated from Jena High School. He also attended Louisiana College.
In his younger days he broke horses, rode bulls, and is considered by many to be "One of the Last Old Cowboys."
He loved to grow vegetables and feed people. He had great compassion for the less fortunate and helped anyone in need. Mr. Paul is preceded in death by his parents; three brothers Dale Paul, Doyle Paul, and Jewell Paul; and three sisters Agnes Yule, Evelyn Carter Hailey, and Shirley Faye Paul. Those left to love and miss him are his wife of almost 63 years Delphine (Ganey) Paul; his son, Andy Paul & wife Bonnie of Arnaudville, La; his daughter Denise Grissom & husband Doug of Nebo, La; two brothers, Billy Paul and Tommy Paul; one granddaughter, Wendy (Grissom) Lehmann & husband, Gustave of Prairieville, La,; one grandson, Dan Grissom of Austin, Texas; one great-granddaughter Sydney Lehmann; and a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
The family will receive friends from 9:00 AM until time of service on Sunday. Services will be held 2:00 PM on Sunday, March 8, 2015 in the Chapel of Kinner and Stevens (Southern Funeral Home), Jena, LA with Bro. Byron Norris, Bro. Tommy Prince and Rev. Huey Tarpley officiating. Mr. Paul will be laid to rest in the Nebo Cemetery, Nebo, La.
Honored to serve as pallbearers will be David Yule, Tom Kendrick, Harvey Carter, Don Tant, Bo Bignar, and Darrell Black. Honorary Pallbearers will be Hig Hailey, Rev. Huey Tarpley, John Raymond Larison, Alvin Allen, Bill Enterkin, Melvin Allbritton, George Lovette, Sherman Ganey, and Rev. Ray Fairman and Clarence Durham.
