Pete (David) Manrique Aguilar, Jr., (age 71) passed away on Tuesday March 3, 2015 at home with his loving wife by his side, after a long courageous battle with cancer. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather who valued family and friends with deep care and honor. Pete was born in Houston, TX on August 31, 1943. Upon graduating high school, he proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam War (from 1962-1966) as a small arms instructor to over 800 recruits preparing for combat at Camp Pendleton, CA. During his service he received the Good Conduct Ribbon, the Armed Forces Expeditionary Ribbon and Expert Marksmanship Badge (rifle and pistol). After four years of proudly serving, he was honorably discharged on June 28, 1966. Upon completion of his military service Pete returned to Houston and worked for AT&T for 21 years where he also served as a valued mentor of, and member within, his community. Pete was an Assistant Scout Master for the Sam Houston Area Council of the Boy Scouts of America, a foster parent for Catholic Charities, a member of the Baytown Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, and a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. Pete (at the age of 47) found his true calling by enrolling in the Houston Community College Police Academy where he received the Top Cop Award for Outstanding Achievement in all areas of study - academics, firearms and physical training. He was employed as a Harris County, Precinct 3 Constable Deputy in 1991 and diligently progressed in rank after 19 years of dedicated service, retiring as Captain - Warrant Division in 2009. He was a devoted husband to his wife Tonnie of 31 years and a dedicated father to his children and grandchildren. Pete cherished the close relationships with his family and he enjoyed spending time together outdoors, riding his motorcycle, hosting family BBQ's and celebrating his culture. As a musician, Pete enjoyed playing guitar and listening to Tejano, Country & Western, and other music genres of his era. Pete is preceded in death by his father, Pedro "Pete" Manrique Aguilar, Sr. He is survived by his loving wife Tonnie Aguilar; his mother Rafaela Aguilar; his brother and spouse Ernest & Margaret Aguilar; his sister Carmen Aguilar; his daughters and spouses, Christina Aguilar, Jennifer Aguilar and Glenda & Carl Borne; his grandsons, Jason White, Anthony Castillo, and Matthew Vinson; and his great-grandson Collin White.
