James was born May 30, 1937 on his uncle Elmer's farm in Portageville, Mo. The 6th child of George William Huey Hensley and Lillie Mae White Hensley. All together there were 6 boys and 3 sisters, and one half sister.
He moved with his family from Missouri to Arizona by train, arriving in Coolidge, Az. Dec 10, 1942.
He "bucked" hay for local farmers, worked in his brother Paul's gas station and later in Paul's grocery store before eventually going to work for Asarco Mining Company smelter in Hayden, Arizona, where he worked for 37 years before retiring.
He married Mary Louise "Corky" Rector in May of 1965. They had two children, Ricky James and Tammy Maylene.
He married second Joyce Wood. She had 3 children who extended his family; Dean, Wesley, and Melissa.
Preceding him in death are his parents, Huey and Lillie, a step mother Mary, 4 brothers: Virgil, Paul, Utah, Leroy; 3 sisters: Ruth (who died at 3 yrs in Mo), Mable, and Bonnie; half sister Linda Marie Crawford/Sheets/Rumsower; one stepson: Dean Wood.
He is survived by his children: Ricky James Hensley of Avondale, Az. and Tammy Maylene Hensley of Chandler, Az., 2 stepchildren: Melissa Durnan and Wesley Wood of Mesa,Az., 1 grandson: Skylar Hensley, 5 step grandchildren: Teresa, Rachel, Chelsea, Felicia and Cameron; 2 step great grandchildren: Addison and Masyn; one brother, Bob Hensley of Prescott, Az. His big passion was hunting and fishing.
