D.L. Crowell, age 77, of Nashville, MI passed away in Winter Haven, FL July 4, 2014. D.L. was born September 18, 1936 the son of Maxwell and Rose (Walker) Crowell. He married Inez Warren on November 29, 2013 and she survives.

D.L. retired from the U.S. military after 22 years of service. He first served in the Marine Corps from October 1953 to October 1958. He then immediately joined the U.S. Army serving from October 1958 until the time of his retirement in October of 1975. D.L. was a Light Weapons Infantryman, specialized Sniper and a Drill Sergeant. Mr. Crowell served one tour of duty in Korea and two tours in Vietnam. During his military career, D.L. was awarded the: National Defense Service Medal w/OLC, Expert Infantryman Badge, Excellence-in-Competition Badge, Rifle, Vietnam Service Medal w/3 Bronze Stars, Good Conduct Medal 4th Award, Combat Infantryman Badge, Air Medal, Distinguished Rifleman Badge, Jungle Expert Badge, 4 Overseas Service Bars, Purple Heart, Army Commendation Medal, Republic of Korea Presidential Unit Commendation, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal w/60 Device, Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross w/ Palm, and the Bronze Star Medal.

Besides his wife Inez, D.L. is survived by his daughters: Vivian (Randy) Sutherland of Reno, NV, Karen Crowell of Athens, Sharon (Roy) Leal of Athens, Darlene Jeffords of Youngstown, NY, Claudia Nicole Kelly-Crowell, of Mohave Valley, AZ, Elizabeth Nieto of Kalamazoo, Katie (John) Nemeth of Reno, NV, and Sarah (Josh) Bower of Delton; 2 stepdaughters: Charlene Warren of Auburndale, FL and Tena (Kevin) Schantz of Nashville, MI; 1 stepson: Mark Warren of Auburn, FL. many grandchildren; many great grandchildren; and 2 sisters: Marilyn (Garwood) Edwards of Olivet, and Joan (Ralph) Tuttle of Battle Creek. D.L. was preceded in death by his 1st wife: Wanda Crowell in 1967, his parents, and his brother: Barney Crowell.

Burial will be in Ft. Custer National Cemetery, Augusta with full military honors.
