The following bio is from a typed four page document and is entered here as it was typed, probably from Jonas's own words, either written or spoken, on his 90th birthday:

I am a son of a family of fourteen children, eight sons and six daughters, and I am the only one living. My father's name was Daniel Yoder. He had two brother's, Steven and Christian. Steven lived on a farm near where Sugarcreek, Ohio is now located, and Christian lived about three miles south of Canton, Ohio. My birthplace was one mile north of Shanesville, Ohio.

My parents and grandparents together moved from Somerset County, Pennsylvania to Tuscarawas County, Ohio in the year 1812. My grandfather's name was (John) Hans Yoder, and Grandmother's name was Stutzman before her marriage. Grandfather came from Switzerland in his youth, if I am informed right.

My mother's name (maiden) was also Barbara Yoder, a daughter of (John) Hannes Yoder, and her mother's maiden name was Rickenbach, being my grandmother. Grandfather Yoder died when my mother was a young girl, and Grandmother was married again to a widower, Michael Troyer. My mother had three half brothers and one half-sister, who was married to David Lantz. They had no children. I well remember of seeing these grandparents, and all these folks came from the Glades, Somerset County, Pennsylvania, to Ohio.

I left Ohio in October, 1852 and came to Marshall County, Indiana, this being sixty-eight years ago in 1920, and below I give a few more facts concerning my family.

I was born in Tuscarawas County, Ohio January 15, 1831, and was married to Magdalena Gary, December 24, 1854 in La Grande County, Indiana. To this union were born three children. First, an infant son, born dead in October 1855. Second, Susana Yoder, born October 27, 1856. Third, William Yoder, born August 13, 1858. Their mother died August 19, 1858.

Married the second time to Anna Kaufman of Elkhart County, Indiana, November 24, 1861, and to this union were born five children. Sarah, born November 15, 1863. Levi, born December 11, 1865. Manasses, born November 25, 1869, John J. Yoder, born December 12, 1871, and Jonas J. Yoder, born December 21st, 1873. Levi Yoder died August 2, 1866.

Sarah Yoder married Moses Guengerich, and they had one son. Mother and child both died March 1884.

Manasses Yoder married Lillian Kaufman, widow of Jesse Kaufman, her maiden name being Becknell. To this union were born three sons and one daughter.

John J. Yoder married Elizabeth Troyer, and to this union were born six children, three sons and three daughters. One son and one daughter died.

Jonas J. Yoder was married to Magalena Hochstetler, and to them were born seven children, four sons and three daughters. Their first born child died in infancy.

John J. Yoder's daughter, Sarah, is married to Levi Schrock, and to them is born one daughter to date.

Susanna Yoder married Daniel S. Mullet, of Holmes County, Ohio, and to them were born sixteen children, five sons and eleven daughters. Six died in infancy. Sarah married Gideon Chupp, and they have no children. Mary married Henry C. Hochsteter, and to them are born three sons and four daughters. Benedict D. Mullet married Fannie Miller, of Arthur, Illinois, and to them are born five sons, one daughter. One son died in infancy. Mattie married Issac D. Yoder, and they have five children, three sons and two daughters. Susan married Henry Graber, of North Dakota, and to them is born one son. Tona married Manasses S. Yoder and to them are born three children, two sons and one daughter. Daniel Mullet, Jr. married Celesta Hochetetler, and to them are born one son and one daughter. Amanda and Emma are single to this date - January 15, 1921. Jonas D. Mullet married Fanny Stutzman. They have three sons and one daughter.

William Yoder was married to Elizabeth Helmuth of Holmes County, Ohio, December 25, 1881. To this union eight children were born, five sons and three daughters - as follows.

John W. Yoder was married to Sarah Miller, of Holmes County, Ohio, and to this union were born eight children, five sons and three daughters, of whom seven children are living - five sons and two daughters.

Amanda Yoder was married to Tobias J. Schlabach, and to this union was born twelve children, eight sons and four daughters, of whom nine children are living, seven sons and two daughters.

Barbara Yoder was married to Peter Wagler. To this union were born five children, two sons and three daughters, of whom three are living, two sons and one daughter - twin daughters died.

Jonas W. Yoder, was married to Amanda Hershberger. No children were born to this union.

Andrew W. Yoder, was married to Barbara Troyer. To this union were born two children, one son and one daughter, viz. twins. His wife, Barbara, died February 6, 1920.

Martin W. Yoder was married to Lovina Yoder. To this union are born three children, one son and two daughters. One daughter died.

Menno W. Yoder married Malinda Miller. To this union is born one son.

Susanna Yoder married John C. Chupp. To this union are born two children, one son and one daughter.

Elizabeth, wife of William Yoder, died January 19, 1896 at the age of thirty-five years, ten months and sixteen days.

William Yoder was married second time to Barbara Borkholder, of Marshall County - Indiana. To this union were born eight children, two sons and six daughters. One son, William W. Yoder, died October 3, 1910 at the age of four years, ten months and two days.

Daniel W. Yoder married Elizabeth Burkholder. No children.

Anna Yoder married Daniel A. Beachy. To this union is born one daughter.

Mary Yoder married Abraham J. Weaver. No children.

Catherine Yoder, single.

Elizabeth Yoder, single.

Emma Yoder, single.

Magdalena Yoder, single.

The descendants of Jonas Yoder, Sr. are - eight children, fifty grandchildren, and sixty-three great grandchildren.
