Ricky "Possum" Akers, Age, 45, of Pikeville, died Tuesday, October 24, 2000, at Cabell-Huntington Hospital, following an automobile accident. Born on March 12, 1955, in Martin, he was the son of Rudolph and Marjorie Webb Akers of Martin.

He was a disabled coal miner

Survivors include one son, Billy Joe Akers of Lexington; one step-son, David Cline of Columbus, Ohio; one daughter, Jamie Lynn Ray of Lexington; one step-daughter, Gina Cline of Columbus, Ohio; two brothers, Larry Akers and Terry Lee Akers, both of Martin; one sister, Jennifer Dove of Silver Lake, Indiana, and one grandchild.

Funeral services will be conducted Friday, October 27, at 11 a.m., at the Nelson-Frazier Funeral Home, with Randy Osborne and Graden Howard officiating.
Burial will be in the Akers Family Cemetery, Cracker Bottom Road, Martin, under the direction of Nelson-Frazier Funeral Home.
