Mary was the daughter of Elijah Morgan DeHart and Elizabeth Jane Ray, and some of her siblings were Emmaline, who married a Hickey, Nancy, Lydia, Martha Jane, Nathan, Caladonia, Lavada, and Marion Columbus 'Lum' who married Ellen Burnette.

Mary married Allen Thomas Adams and they had two children Lumey and Nancy, with only Nancy still living in 1900. Nancy married George Shields.
