SOLDIERS HOME COMMANDANT TAKEN BY DEATH

Bert E. Inman, 69, commandant of the Montana Soldiers Home at Columbia Falls died at a Whitefish hospital early yesterday morning. Mr Inman was born in Peroria, IL, July 10, 1879. He moved to Ohio and on June 12, 1904 he was married at Piqua, OH. On March 30, 1917, they came to Havre and lived there until 1946 when they moved to Kalispell.
On October 1, 1948, they moved to Columbia Falls when he became commandant of the Soldiers home there. He is survived by his wife, Pansy; two daughters, Mrs Frances McFarland of Lewistown, MT, and Mrs Irene Damschen, Havre, and two sons, LeRoy of Billings and Bert Jr of Havre. He is also survived by nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
The body is at the Johnson Funeral home where services were to be conducted this afternoon at 3:30 pm by the Rev Amos Crawford. The body will be sent to Havre, where services will be conducted Tuesday afternoon at 3:30 and will then be sent to Piqua, Ohio for services and interment.

Died at Simons Hospital, Whitefish, MT May 15, 1949 3:30 am He was a Spanish American War Veteran. At time of death he was Commandant of Montana Soldiers Home at Columbia Falls, Montana. Certified death certificate #12539.
Burial: May, 1949 Piqua, Miami, Ohio, Forest Hill Cemetery.

"Laura Inman and Albert Van Horn were never married, so (Al)Bert took mother's name, but he is listed as Bertie Van Horn on 1880 census."
