Loren was the oldest child of James L Pearce and Mary Margaret Richey. He was born in Minnesota, but by age 10 he and his family had moved to Washington State. In 1922 he married Dorothy Blunck, and they lived in Seattle. They had two daughters. As a young man Loren worked as a gas station operator for Sandard Oil. He later became owner of a gas station. In 1942 he was a partner in Pearce & McCumber, Inc., in Seattle. Later he became the sole owner of Pearce Oil Co. Loren died of pneumonia at age 83.
