He served in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Goodhue during World War II, and worked as a log truck driver and long-haul driver for Weyerhaeuser Co.
Purdy lived in the Springfield and Vida areas for about 68 years. He was a member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, Royal Oaks Congregation in Eugene. His hobbies included bird hunting, coastal fishing and fly-fishing.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Scott of Cottage Grove and Walter of Springfield; a daughter, Linda Dannen of Springfield; and two grandchildren.
At his request, no service is planned. Andreason's Cremation & Burial Service in Eugene is in charge of arrangements.
