FLINT, Col. John S., MD

USAF (Ret.), of Seminole, passed away March 6, 2015. He was born Nov. 17, 1923, in Sharon, CT, to Scott and Ethel Flint. He was raised in West Cornwall, CT, where he started his education in a one room school. He continued at Loomis School, Yale University, and Tufts University Medical School. His internship was at Jefferson Davis Hospital in Houston and had residency at Undercliff Hospital in Meridian, CT, and Jefferson Hospital (hematology) in Philadelphia. He taught at Jefferson Medical College and the University of Colorado.

He started his military career as enlisted in WWII. He was later drafted to serve as an MD during the Korean War. After a couple years in private practice, he returned to serve until he retired in 1978. He was assigned to Lackland, Lowry, Chanute, Wiesbaden, Ent, Eglin (Chief of Hospital Services - his favorite assignment), Hickam (Deputy Command Surgeon) and MacDill (Hospital Commander). He then retired to St. Petersburg. After military retirement he was the Medical Director for Operation Par for fifteen years and one of the top addiction medication specialists in the state of Florida. After that he volunteered as an Ombudsman advocating for and protecting the health, safety, welfare and rights of long-term care residents in Florida.

He loved the outdoors and was an avid golfer in his retirement. He was a lifelong bridge player and a ballroom dancer. He had wit and humor, and was a kind and generous man. He was greatly admired and loved and will be missed accordingly. He is proceeded in death by his parents; brothers, Bob, Bill and George; wife Shirley Jean Morris and mother of his children; his 2nd wife Madonna Spahr; and his 3rd wife, Frances Lancaster. He is survived by his sons, Scott of Aurora, CO, Chris (Kris) of Duvall, WA, Jay (Kathy) of Ft. Walton Beach, FL, and Hugh (Michelle) of Bonney Lake, WA; granddaughters, Robin, Laura, and Ruth; and grandson, Keller.

A memorial service will be held at 10 am, on Saturday, March 14, at Anderson-McQueen Tyrone Chapel, 7820 38th Ave. N., St. Petersburg. Interment will be at a later date in Bentonville, AR.
