Virginia M. Hunley Phipps, 67, of Mansfield died Friday evening, January 17, 2003 at MedCentral Mansfield Hospital after an extended illness. Mrs. Phipps was born February 12, 1935 in Salyersville, Kentucky to Pete and Laure Ramey Hunley and was a Mansfield area resident the last 49 years. She attended Stone Valley Baptist Church. Virginia enjoyed quilting, embroidery, working crossword puzzles and word searches and reading.
She is survived by her husband of 49 years, Clayton Phipps; a daughter and son-in-law, Sharon Kay and Earl Eiklor, Jr. of Mansfield; a daughter-in-law, Kathy Phipps of Lexington, Ohio; four grandchildren, April Eiklor of Westerville, Ohio, Stacie Whitehair and her husband, Heath of Butler, Ohio, Tyler Eiklor of Mansfield and Jerimiah Phipps of Lexington; two great-grandchildren, Austin and Ethan Whitehair; two brothers, Melvin Phipps of Bronston, Kentucky and Curtis Phipps of Georgetown, Kentucky; four sisters, Lois Collinsworth of Ashland, Kentucky, Zora Layne of Salyersville, Kentucky, Larue Jenkins of Beaver, Ohio and Gertrude Wilson of Salyersville, Kentucky; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, a son, Jerry Phipps, and a brother, Buck Hunley.
Friends may call at the Ontario Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, Monday, January 20 from 3-5 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home Tuesday at 10:00 a.m., conducted by Elder Layton Phipps and Elder Jimmy Webb, Jr. Burial will follow in Mansfield Cemetery.
