Darlene was born on July 1, 1934 in Fayetteville, AR, the daughter of the late Rollie Hicks and Mabel (Thurman) Hicks. Darlene moved to various places throughout her young life in the western part of the United States. She married Finis (Shorty) Ray Alexander on August 9, 1951 in Roundup, MT. The couple continued moving around the western part of the United States until making their permanent home east of Jay, where they purchased some land and later started a dairy farm. She and Shorty were married for over 50 years. Darlene also worked at Wal-Mart in Jay until retiring in 2009. She enjoyed dancing, painting and gardening but most all she loved to be with her family especially her grandkids. She will be greatly missed.
She was preceded in death by her parents, siblings, husband, and two great grandchildren.
She is survived by her two daughters: Linda Alexander of Tulsa, OK, and Mary Ellen James and her husband Ed of Eucha, OK; four grandchildren: Aaron Inlow and his wife Laura, Chaney Buzzard, Rashell Hopkins and her husband Rusty, and Nicole Barker; seven great grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.
A graveside service will be held at Yellow Tree Cemetery in Jay, OK on Monday, March 16, 2015 at 3PM with Chaplain John McPhail, presiding. The family will greet friends on Sunday, March 15, 2015 from 1PM to 3PM at Worley-Luginbuel Funeral Home in Jay, OK. .
