[snip] "The Post" yesterday announced the burning of John Sweeney's home at 69 Henderson street, Allegheny. He died in 15 minutes after he was taken to the hospital. His wife, who is also in the hospital, suffering from burns that may prove fatal, yesterday told this story to the coroner. "My husband is an iron molder, 40 years old. We could not get to sleep Saturday night, and about 2:30 Sunday morning we got up. We took a lamp and went into another room to read. I went downstairs for some water. I heard the lamp fall, and ran upstairs, to find the room aflame and my husband on fire. I tried to save him, and i got burned myself. Then I jumped from the window. The ground was soft, and i was not hurt by the fall. A policeman arrived about that time, and sent in the alarm of fire. He also got Mr. Sweeney out and sent him to the hospital where he died at 3:15.

CAME HOME DRUNK - John Sweeney Burned to Death While In a Stupor
- Pittsburg, March 10 - John E. Sweeney, aged 40, lost his life and his wife received probably fatal injuries by the burning of their house, No. 69 Senderson street, Allegheny, early this morning. Sweeney came home drunk and went up stairs to bed, leaving his wife asleep on the first floor. At 2 o'clock she detected the odor of smoke, and on going to her husband's room found the lamp overturned and the room in a blaze. She repeatedly attempted to drag Sweeney to the stairs, but was unable. She was severely burned before she abandoned the attempt, and to save her own life leaped from a window. The fireman dragged Sweeney out, but he died in a few minutes. Mrs. Sweeney inhaled the flames and was terribly bruised by her fall. The couple were childless.
