G. Clarence Small, 55, of Marion was fatally injured Monday afternoon in a fall from a hay wagon at the farm of his brother-in-law D. Erskine Witherspoon, chambersburg R.R. 5. He was the brother of Miss Thelma E Small acting director of rural education at Shippensburg State Teachers college.
Mr. Small was driving toward the barn when he toppled eight feet from the load of hay to the field, apparently dying instantly of a broken neck.
He had complained of shortness of breath shortly before the accident and was advised by his brother-in-law to rest. In view of the extreme heat, it was thought he may have suffered a sun stroke causing him to fall from the load of hay.
He made his home with his mother and two sisters, and was a member of the Grindstone Hill Reformed Church.
Surviving are his mother, Mrs. Carrie V. Small; three brothers, H. Roy Small, Lemoyne; Charles I. Small, Chambersburg R.R. 5, and Ralph K. Small, R.R. 6, and four sisters, Mrs Witherspoon, Miss Thelma E. Small, Mrs. Mary Hovis, New Franklin, and Miss Carrie M. Small, Marion.
Funeral services were to be held from the Sellers Funeral home in Chambersburg Thursday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock, conducted by the Rev. J.C. Sanders of Marion, with burial in Norland cemetery.
